In fact, this external ADSL router allows speeds 60 times faster than ISDN and 200 times faster than traditional modems. Setting up could not be easier. Just connect your PC, laptop, or local area network to the modem over an Ethernet or ATMF interface and you are ready to go. Alcatel's Speed Touch Pro ADSL router is ideal for residential users, telecommuters, branch offices, and enterprise networks. The router connects to the phone line through a standard RJ-11 connector. It supports the current standards in Discrete Multi-Tone (DMT) ADSL line coding ensuring widespread interoperability with service providers' ADSL systems. The Ethernet interface (10 M b/s) supports bridging and routing for individual PCs or Ethernet local area networks. The ATMF interface (25 M b/s) provides excellent service transparency, and supports consistent ATM-to-the-desktop networking for ATM workstations or multimedia devices, and local area networks. The modem can operate as a standard network adapter, providing an "always-on" connection to the Internet or corporate network. In this mode the connection is set up when the PC starts up and terminated when the PC is turned off.
