Alcatel offers a complete line of gigabit switching modules. The GSX-FM-2W or -4W series supports two or four standards-based 1000BaseSX (multimode fiber) gigabit switch ports. The GSX-FS-2W or -4W support two or four standards-based 1000BaseLX (single mode fiber) gigabit switch ports. These modules transmit over OS/R's 22 Gbps distributed switching fabric to provide high-speed gigabit switching in the core, and the optional layer 3 switching engine (HRE-X) provides up to 12 Mpps performance at layer 3. Backbone switches require both high-performance and powerful network services to support the complex environment of today's networks.
