Drive firmware has been enhanced to enable monitoring software to detect conditions in the drive parameters that are precursors to failure. Additionally Compaq Wide-Ultra SCSI drives now support S.M.A.R.T. predictive failure reporting. S.M.A.R.T. pre-failure reporting works in both array and non-array controller server environments. S.M.A.R.T. predictive failure reporting is a complement to the pre-failure notification provided by Compaq SMART Array controllers and Compaq Insight Manager software.
