Compared to optical and removable disk hardware, tape drives are highly affordable. Tape minicartridges are the least expensive of all available storage media - less than $0.03 per megabyte. Capacity. With hard drive capacity reaching into the gigabytes, using several pieces of media for a single backup is tedious and time-consuming. The TR5 minicartridge can store an impressive 20GB of data. Most full hard drives can be backed up multiple times on one minicartridge. Ease of use. Backing up is important, so the easier it is to do, the more likely it is to be done.
