Compaq offers 10X/40X DVD-ROM Drive. The capacity of the DVD (digital versatile disk or digital video disk) media is the largest of the optical storage products. With large disk capacity software uploads, future commercial multimedia titles (i.e., training) and large databases will increasingly be distributed using this technology. Compaq's new 10X DVD-ROM is the latest DVD technology to market, again showing Compaq's leadership in standard optical solutions for its customer sets. Recent advantages in laser pickup and signal error correction technology have made it possible for this DVD-ROM drive to transfer data from DVDs at blazing speeds of up to 13,500 Kb/s or 10 times the standard transfer rate. In addition, this drive also reads CD-ROM data at fast speeds of up to 40X. Compaq's 10X DVD-ROM solution is the latest generation of DVD-ROM drives to take full advantage of DVD's enhanced features while preserving compatibility with conventional CD-ROM, CD-DA discs, and CD-R/RW media. Customers can use this product to read several different types of media (CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW), and with the software decoder that comes with this DVD-ROM drive, movie playback capability (MPEG) is possible with the G200 and integrated 810e graphics solution and either Windows 95 or Windows 98.
