No other backup and restore program has anything like Retrospect's Proactive Client Backup system. Proactive Client Backup uses guidelines established by the administrator to dynamically and intelligently manage the backup system, by continually adapting to the availability of resources and computers' need for a backup. When active, Proactive Client Backup determines which backup media is available and which computers need backup. The least recently backed up computer with the highest priority is moved to the top of the queue and other computers are arranged in descending order according to the priority of need. Proactive Client Backup starts at the top of the backup queue to determine the availability of each computer. Once a computer is found on the network, it is backed up automatically. Retrospect moves the most recently backed up volumes to the bottom of the queue as it goes along. This whole process ensures a computer in greater need of backing up gets backed up before one with lesser need, and no computer is left starved for backup.
