Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) is a technology that enables the transmitting of multiple optical signals on different wavelengths over one strand of fiber. WDM is typically deployed in pairs so that the host site will multiplex 1310nm and 1550nm, for instance, onto the fiber and the remote site will then separate the signals by the wavelength. The WDM Series from IMC Networks is a two-channel, protocol and speed-independent multiplexer that is suitable for any data communication application where single-mode fiber is in short supply or expensive to provision. Since the WDM solution enable combining and transmitting any protocols and data rates over single-mode fiber up to 20 kilometers, the capacity of installed fiber is doubled. For example, campus area network managers can deploy the iMcV-WDM solution to combine voice and data traffic over the same duplex fiber between company facilities. The WDM Series is available as a tabletop standalone unit or as a module.
