The Lancom ES-2126 is a managed Fast-Ethernet switch with 24x 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports and two combo ports TP/SFP 10/100/1000 for Gigabit Ethernet connections. This switch features not only store-and-forward mode but also priority queuing, allowing network bandwidth to be reserved for certain data packets such as voice data. The Lancom ES-2126 provides power where it's needed: The backplane can handle data throughput at up to 8.8 Gbps. A high- speed uplink is assured by the backbone connection via Gigabit ports. Speed is provided by very short latency times under 5µs as required by the switch to determine the output port for a certain input port. The power of the Lancom ES-2126 is demonstrated by the size of the source address table: The switch stores and manages up to 8000 MAC addresses. The Lancom ES-2126 is also custom designed for network virtualization: It integrates perfectly into Lancom's Advanced Routing and Forwarding (ARF) and it supports up to 256 active VLANs. Intelligent switches like the Lancom ES-2126 can re- route data packets when network glitches occur. The rapid spanning tree algorithm takes care of this so fast that users do not notice any delay. Just as important as the rapid spanning tree algorithm is the efficient control of bandwidth. This ensures that important applications such as IP telephony are constantly provided with ample bandwidth to avoid interruptions to conversations. Conducting bandwidth control, the Lancom ES-2126 prioritizes the data traffic according to predefined criteria.
