Lotus Domino Extended Search (DES) is an add-on product to Domino that provides distributed, heterogeneous searches across Notes domains, legacy data stores, and the Internet within the Domino environment. The result is single-point access to a variety of data stores without requiring a new, central index. Release 2.0 supports Lotus Notes (with a specific link for Domino.Doc 2.1), file systems, web indices and - together with NotesPump or Lotus Enterprise Integrator (LEI) - IBM DB2, Oracle, and other relational databases accessible through ODBC. In addition, the newest release of the product includes a Link Toolkit, enabling customers and partners to integrate other data sources. Domino Extended Search integrates with the Notes security and authentication system. Access to data stores is controlled at the application level. Domino Extended Search is comprised of two major software pieces: the Server components and the Client Application. The Server components are responsible for processing the search requests, routing them to the appropriate place, submitting searches to the various linked data sources, and getting the results back to the requestor. The Client component comes in two flavors: a Lotus Notes Application and a Domino application for users connecting via a Web browser.
