WebSphere Portal Extend Solution provides portal users the ability to act on information and applications accessed by collaborating with other portal users. In addition to accessing information and applications, portal users need to act on the information presented and tap the knowledge of other portal users. The WebSphere Portal Extend Solution provides this capability by adding the award-winning collaboration technology of Lotus K-station to WebSphere Portal Enable. The collaborative software provides out-of-the-box Web workspaces, called K-station places, which are work environments that can be customized for individuals, teams, or communities with public or restricted membership access. Through the K-station places, the collaborative software supports integration with Lotus QuickPlace and Lotus Sametime. In addition, end users can create new team workspaces as business needs occur without relying on an Information Technology department. K-station places can be saved as templates and reused by other teams to maximize value. WebSphere Portal Extend introduces new K-station integration technology so portlets created with the WebSphere Portlet API can be displayed via the K-station user interface. This allows the customer to choose either the K-station user interface or the WebSphere Portal Server user interface without limiting the portfolio of available portlets.
