The Nortel Networks Passport 4400 series of multiservice access switches integrates voice, fax, modem, video, local area network (LAN), and legacy-data traffic over a singlewide area network (WAN) link, or over an existing routed network. Passport 4400 switches support both Voice over Frame Relay (VoFR) and Voice over IP (VoIP). The Passport 4400 series provides an efficient, reliable, and easily managed WAN access solution with sophisticated compression and bandwidth management, and superior Quality of Service (QoS) for networks ranging in size from small point-to-point to thousands of nodes. Powerful networking features and flexibility provide a superior branch WAN solution to support new business applications. To cut corporate communications costs, the Passport 4400 series incorporates Nortel Networks advanced ClearVoice toll quality voice compression technology. ClearVoice is based on ITU standard audio compression codecs, hardware and software data compression algorithms, enhanced switching and traffic management capabilities, and state-of-the-art hardware and software integration technologies. The 4400 product line can be used to build small to medium-sized networks, or provide branch and remote office access devices for Passport 6400 and 7400 backbone networks, supporting varying degrees of connectivity and performance for large networks. The Passport 4400 series of multiservice access switches employs a modular design, allowing customization and expanded services through the addition of option cards. Growing branch requirements can be accomodated with services tailored to each location.
