This A/V receiver is ready for what the future brings. Completely versatile, this unit can handle the latest and future digital sources - up to 7.1 channels in/out. Plus, there's THX Surround EX and it's DTS-ES compatible. Its THX Select certification makes it the perfect choice for your digital home cinema center, today and tomorrow. Pioneer's Direct Energy MOSFET assures the amplifier runs cool and clean, while assuring higher power and rich bass, for improved overall sound. The VSX-859RDS THX Select certified A/V receiver delivers the same quality and experience as THX Ultra. This THX Select receiver, however, has power requirements, which are better suited to smaller living rooms. They accurately reflect the demands of modern program material, based on examining the requirements of multi-channel digital audio. The optical digital audio input terminal featured on the VSX-859RDS front panel enables easy connection of a portable DVD, MiniDisc or CD player, for the utmost convenience. This terminal accepts all mainstream digital formats, e.g. Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM and MPEG. So you can enjoy the total digital home cinema experience, even with a portable DVD player. The VSX-859RDS has two component video inputs: for example, in the initial setting you can choose DVD/LD for Input 1 and TV/SAT for Input 2. You can also assign other functions, choosing from all video inputs (except for front video input), if you want to connect other sources, like a second DVD player. Yet another convenient feature from Pioneer! For more convenience, you can change the name of each function, e.g. DVD/LD, CD-R, to a name you choose, of up to 10 characters.
